Clandestine Racing Incident in Areguá

In Areguá, prosecutor Jorge Escobar from the Zonal Unit of Luque charged two individuals for participating in illegal races and endangering others. The accused are Alexander Javier Arévalos, assistant sub-officer of the Special Police Operations Force (FOPE), and Jonathan Isaac Riveros Cano. They were caught competing illegally on Avda. Mariscal Estigarribia, near the Municipal Beach of Areguá.

According to the National Police report, agents arrived at the scene and managed to identify the vehicles involved, a blue Toyota Premio driven by Arévalos and a silver Toyota Allion operated by Riveros Cano. During the illegal race, Arévalos lost control of his car and crashed into the main entrance of the resort, causing material damage to the access booth and to his own vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to the road patrol base for an alcohol test, which showed a result of 0.084 mg/L for sub-officer Arévalos. Given this situation, the prosecutor decided to charge both for dangerous intervention in road traffic and exposure to danger.

In the words of prosecutor Escobar: 'The facts mentioned here constitute serious crimes that cannot be tolerated. Road safety and the integrity of individuals are a priority; one cannot put the lives of the population at risk due to reckless behaviors as observed in this case.'

The irresponsible attitude of these individuals highlights the need to reinforce awareness about road safety and respect for traffic regulations in society. Participation in illegal races is not only illegal but represents a serious danger to the lives of those involved and to innocent third parties who may be affected by such negligent actions.
