Controversy in the Copa Libertadores

The president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez from Paraguay, made a curious comparison when questioned about the possibility of Brazilian teams withdrawing from the Copa Libertadores. During the pre-draw for the group stage of this tournament, he compared the situation to 'It would be like Tarzan without Cheetah'.

The controversy arises due to the accusations from Brazilian teams towards the others, who accuse them of discrimination. The situation has worsened following an incident during a Copa Libertadores U-20 match between Cerro Porteño from Paraguay and Palmeiras from Brazil, where a player provoked the rival fans and was subjected to racist insults, leading him to end up crying.

Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, expressed her displeasure about this situation and proposed Brazil's exit from Conmebol to join Concacaf, the organization that governs Central America and North America, as a possible solution to the conflicts. In response, Domínguez was asked about the hypothetical resignation of Brazilian teams from the Copa Libertadores and controversially replied that it would be 'like Tarzan without Cheetah, impossible'.
