Ariel Holan to Coach Cerro Porteño

Ariel Holan, who controversially won the Professional League with Rosario Central, will take charge of the first team of Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño. This will be his ninth experience as a head coach, starting with Defensa y Justicia in 2015 and his last stint at Rosario Central. In his recent role at the “Canalla”, he led the team to first place in the annual table and was abruptly declared champion of the Professional League by the Argentine Football Association (AFA). During this period, he directed 42 matches in 2024 and 2025, winning 22, drawing 14, and losing 6. According to Noticias Argentinas agency, the coach will replace Uruguayan Jorge Bava, who was dismissed on Friday, March 20, following the defeat to Rubio Ñu just before the start of the Copa Libertadores, where the “Cyclone” will debut against Sporting Cristal from Peru next Wednesday. The contract between the coach and the Paraguayan team is for one year.
