The Government has announced an ambitious road infrastructure plan that includes the paving of 1,000 kilometers of urban roads in Paraguay. The project, considered the largest in the country's history, will receive an investment of 100 million dollars from Itaipú Binacional funds.
"With this, we respond to the requests of the mayors and governors to better connect their communities," declared Zacarías Irún, the Paraguayan general director of Itaipú, at the official event held at the waterfront esplanade of the Government Palace. The president of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and other authorities were also present.
The initiative aims to improve connectivity and the development of the most vulnerable communities, generating around 10,000 jobs in various districts. The work will start immediately, and the project is expected to be completed within one to one and a half years.
During the presentation, the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and Itaipú Binacional for the execution of the paving in seven regions of the country was highlighted. Minister Claudia Centurión expressed: "We want it to become a reality as soon as possible." For his part, Zacarías Irún emphasized that the plan could exceed the initially planned 1,000 kilometers.
Additionally, it was reported that approximately one-third of the paving will be with cobblestones and the rest with rigid paving, which will ensure greater durability of the works and contribute to enhancing the road infrastructure of Paraguay for the benefit of the community.
