In the lead-up to the decisive match that will take place at the La Nueva Olla stadium in Asunción, the coaches of Talleres and River, Alexander Medina and Marcelo Gallardo respectively, shared their impressions at a press conference.
The Córdoba team did not have a good farewell in their last match before the final, as they lost 2-1 to Tigre at the Mario Alberto Kempes and were sent off by their fans with boos. Despite the disappointment, Medina tried to change the mentality of his players, highlighting the importance of the match: "It’s a final, there is no tomorrow. We know who we are playing against and we have to enjoy it a lot."
For his part, Gastón Benavídez, one of the references of Talleres, showed optimism: "We hope that once and for all, history changes for us."
On River's side, there is also concern. The International Supercup is approaching, and both Talleres and River are seeking to leave behind their recent defeats to focus on the challenge of Wednesday, March 5. Gallardo's team suffered a defeat against Estudiantes at the Monumental, creating doubts about their performance. Despite this, the coach expressed his expectations for the final: "Clearly in a final, the team might find its best version and from there display its best game. We will be fine and we also have to be present on Wednesday."
In addition to tactical strategy, Gallardo emphasized the importance of physical preparation and the necessity of arriving with energy for the final: "We need freshness because it will be very hot, but it will be the same for both." In the same vein, Medina admitted that there are aspects to correct, but he trusts that his team will rise to the challenge.
Next Wednesday, River and Talleres will face off in more than a final. It will be the opportunity to change the image left in their recent matches and be crowned as the new champion of the International Supercup.
