Natalia González, a 39-year-old Argentine woman, was arrested in Paraguay accused of stealing a baby from a public hospital. She pretended to be pregnant in front of her family, who were unaware of her true intentions. The woman is now incarcerated in the Buen Pastor Penitentiary, accused of violating parental rights.
During her interrogation, Natalia refrained from speaking out on the advice of her lawyer, as inconsistencies were detected in her statements. Prosecutor Laura Finestra confirmed the arrest and highlighted that the Paraguayan Penal Code includes a penalty of up to one year of imprisonment or a fine for the crime committed. However, the sentence could be increased to six years in case of aggravating factors determined in the investigation.
Psychological, psychiatric examinations, and medical inspections are expected to be conducted, although they have not yet been scheduled. The case was made public on Friday, January 17, when Natalia was arrested just before crossing the border with a stolen baby. The prosecutor ruled out the involvement of a trafficking network, revealing that the woman had deceived her family by simulating a pregnancy.
