The mayor of Las Lomitas, Atilio Basualdo, made a serious complaint after a terrifying experience he lived through with his family this past Saturday. While heading to Asunción, Paraguay, from Clorinda, Basualdo noticed they were being followed by motorcyclists dressed in civilian clothes.
Upon realizing the situation, upon arriving in Asunción, Basualdo and his family took refuge in a shopping mall and contacted the Paraguayan police to report the pursuit they were facing. Shortly after, authorities arrested two motorcyclists near the shopping center, who turned out to be police officers from Formosa, and whose motorcycles belonged to the Ministry of Government of the province.
Basualdo later explained that he considers himself a criminal target by the Insfrán Government, claiming that the latter has control over the police and justice in the region, leading to harassment towards those who are not politically aligned.
The mayor of Las Lomitas was emphatic in accusing the motorized police linked to the government of Gildo Insfrán of attempting to kill him during his trip to Paraguay. Basualdo denounced the lack of democracy in Formosa, describing the situation in the province as a tyranny that has persisted for years.
"They tried to kill me. On Saturday, my family and I traveled to Asunción. He appoints and removes judges and prosecutors at will. This is what we are suffering," Basualdo expressed emphatically, highlighting the seriousness of the situation he is denouncing.
