Senator Proposes Adjustments to Unified Vehicle Tax Law

Senator Ever Villalba stated in a press conference that the recent unification of vehicle registration fees has caused imbalances in the amounts payable by taxpayers. According to the senator, this abrupt change in costs, established by Law No. 7447/2025, did not take into account important aspects such as vehicle depreciation and generated unclear categories.

Villalba emphasized that this is a bill that was approved hastily and without prior consultation, which has caused discontent among citizens. In light of this situation, the senator expressed his intention to discuss with the relevant team to propose amendments to the current law. He explained that he will meet with the protesters who oppose the adjustment, with the aim of drafting a document that addresses the necessary corrections.

The liberal senator stated that, despite the initial good intentions of the law, it is essential to consider the financial implications it may have on taxpayers. Once the proposed amendments are agreed upon, they will be presented to the Permanent Commission of the National Congress. Subsequently, an extraordinary session of the Senate will be called to thoroughly discuss the proposed corrections and reach a satisfactory agreement for all parties involved.
